Try using Mechanical Turk or UserTesting to get a better understanding of usage and adoption. With MTurk, you cna ask for a feedback through a form, while UserTesting gives full video and audio.

Backlinks are the most important factor in getting your content to rank. It's helpful to know the number of backlinks to the articles you are competing with. By far the best tool is: https://ahrefs.com/, but it's expensive. I use https://cognitiveseo.com/ to get an idea for free.
