Intros to Store Owners / Buyers

This one is never-ending. Anyone know shop owners that would be a good fit for Thicket? I'm focusing on independent shops with a focus on artisan made goods (think O'Suzannah here in Charlottesville) and also on botanic gardens / historic sites with a nature side to them. Thanks to those of you who responded last time - I've added those to my list.

Where else? Intro emails and contact information is great but even the name and location of the store is a big help!

Thanks.

  • Crozet Artisan's Depot supports local artisans.  It's in the old train depot in downtown Crozet.  It would be great for VIAble Ventures, Whipped Cream, Thicket.  They sell on commission, and handle all the sales tax for you.  You just drop off items then receive a check when they sell.  https://www.crozetartisandepot.com/

Barn Swallow in the Crozet area sell high end items.  They are on 250 between Ivy and Crozet. http://www.thebarnswallow.com/

A similar store (although not quite as high end for jewelry) might be the Ivy Corner Garden Shop in Ivy, which has both a nursery for plants as well as a gift shop of "stuff" -- not the nursery next to the Volvo dealership, but the one out by Toddsbury.  The garden shop shares a building with the Ivy Post Office.  Being a nursery, perhaps it's not the most ideal locale for fine jewelry.  But, being a nursery, it might be perfect for nature-themed jewelry, and they are in a well-heeled area...  www.facebook.com/.../

Also, if you haven't tried Cville Arts on the Downtown Mall, it's a Co-op, so you *may* have to cover some hours there -- not sure that supports your scalability, unless you go in just for feedback.  Thicket would certainly be a super fit based on other artists' styles there.  Interestingly, I think that many artists at Cville Arts also put pieces in the Crozet Artisan's Depot, so the Crozet Depot might be a less time-consuming option for the same artistic neighbors -- just not as well-trafficked as the downtown mall...

  • Becca- The Crozet Artisan's Depot has a jury selection process to be included in the shop.  There is an application on the website with instructions.  Looks like the application might be due Aug 1-5?

One more thing I noticed -- on the Depot website there appears to be an icon for the "Virginia Artisan Trail Network."  To me, that looks like something you could perhaps research?  Meaning, if you applied and are accepted to the Crozet Depot, perhaps you might more easily be linked in to the broader network?  If, of course, you think this would be a good fit/venue for you.

There is also an email address to contact the gallery, in the jury application.  Good luck!
